Lesson 1 - a very useful 16th note on snare which could be a quick fill in on some songs or could be a part of your groove. Lesson 2 - is another variation for the We will rock you beat that we did but this time we put another 16th note snare before the start of your two kicks.  Just refer to the video. Lesson 3 - I would think you will be stuck on this one because this is one of my favourite drum pattern.  If you add a little bit of your groove into it, you can make use of this drum beat on most of the songs. Lesson 4 - this is a bit tricky one but a very good replacement drum fill or could be another funky groove if you like.  You will have to try and play this one very slow at first and then progress to it. Lesson 5 - is a variation of Lesson 3 but also this is another nice drum pattern which can be a heavy rock or something funky depending on the feel that you will put into it. Lesson 6 - is a straight forward Trash Metal drum pattern as I call it es

Let's start off by reviewing the basic parts of the drum kit. Lesson 1 is the most basic in drumming and the generic drum beat or pattern where you can virtually use this on any song by just adjusting the tempo or speed of your drumming and how soft or loud you play it, plus do a little bit of variations like quarter notes open hi-hat or 8th note open hi-hat. Lesson 2 is the opposite of lesson 1 where you start with snare instead of kick or bass drum. This will develop your skills to not always start or play the drums with your dominant hand or foot for that matter. Lesson 3 is the very basic on how to play a straight beat or disco beat. Again you can always try variations like open hi-hat or closed. Lesson 4 is the opposite of lesson 3. Again this is to develop your skills to play drums by not starting with your dominant hand or foot. This a very good variation or improvisation technique for a drummer. Lesson 5 is a proper Rock beat or 8th beat.  If

The very basic drum exercise on March or what we call 2/4.  You will learn to play a steady snare with kick alternately. This is another useful drum lesson for a beginner, very basic and fundamental in learning how to play drums.  And then in preparation for the more advanced lessons like 16th notes, etc.  I can't elaborate further on this one but just take your time and learn it and be disciplined to practise and exercise this beat. Play it slow and gradually increase your speed on this one. Play loud versus soft.  Be consistent with your tempo.  Play it over and over again. Although this is a bit boring, simple and easy but it's very useful for you to learn and develop your stamina and strength in drumming.

This is a very useful pattern or drum exercises and you can use this as a variation to the song We will rock you by Queen.  A very important drum beat in the rock history.  Most of the drummers are using this drumbeat or pattern not only as an exercise for practise but also in making their songs.  This is rather very good drum pattern. The way to do it is steady 8th notes on the hi-hat then two 8th notes kick and two 8th notes snares.  Here's the video of how to do it.  You can always pause the video for the drum notes as well as refer to the video for more drum exercises and lessons. Cheers! Try and play this lesson as steady and as slowly as you can. Then play it as fast as you can. Also try the variations of soft and loud but always maintain tempo. 

Here in this lesson, you will learn to play We will rock you by Queen in the most and very simple way. There are a lot of ways to play it. But, the one that I saw and feel most comfortable is hitting the kick twice with right hand on floor tom then left on hi tom then snare.  Do it over and over again.  Or, just simple do it with 8th notes on closed hi-hat and then two 8th note kicks and a quarter note snare. Here's a video to illustrate it better. Just simply watch it as well as hear it how it sounds.  Also you can pause the video to see the drum notes.  This drum pattern is very easy and also very useful. This lesson will be your very core and fundamental if you are an aspiring drummer for a rock band.  Most of the rock songs are based on this drum pattern. Also, you can use this on a variety of music.  You will enjoy jamming with friends or even by yourself on most songs in YouTube. In order to play this you need to play 8th notes on closed hi-hat then start with a quarter note kick followed by a quarter note snare then two 8th notes kick and a quarter note snare after. Here's the video to explain it further. There are variations that you can do or improvise on this drum pattern.  One is an open hi-hat for metal or heavy rock songs. Or you can play closed hi-hat and open it on the last note.  Again, always learn by playing it slowly at steady tempo. Then progress and play it as fast as you can. Play this pattern also as soft as you can, hold the sticks as light as you can, you can do a lot on drum mechanics.  Change the feel or groove on how you play this beat.

In this lesson you will develop a steady quarter notes on snare while doing 8th notes on closed hi-hat and doing half notes on kick at intervals. This technique is very good for beginners to develop their strength on snare as well as how to create a steady tempo at different notes on kick and hi-hat. This can also be used as a basic funky groove.  You can improvise on this one by doing it on various tempo, accents and feel or groove.  Here's the video sample of this lesson.  Enjoy! In this lesson you will learn the very basic on how to play simple disco drum pattern.  Also, this pattern can be used as warm up or exercise to improve your skills and it's very easy to learn.  All you need to do is a steady quarter note kick and on top of it will be steady 8th note closed hi-hat and snares at interval.  Then, you can change or improvise your hi-hat into 16th beat with alternating right and left hand strokes. You can add another groove into this pattern by opening and closing your hi-hat.  There are a lot of ways to improve, level up or be creative with your drum beat.  Here's the video of our lesson. Always remember to improvise with how you play our drum patterns and read the notes that we put just pause the video and study the drum notes.  And then keep playing on various tempos from slow to fast and soft to loud.  Learn the mechanics of how to be an excellent drummer. In this lesson and being not a drummer, it's amazing how versatile professional drummers are.  What I meant with this is that we all got our dominant hand and foot, and we often starts doing things using them.  So, in relation to drumming if you are right handed, then there's a good chance that you will start playing with the kick and your hi-hat. Let's just say it's time you play the drums and jam along you will always start the drum pattern with the bass or the kick.  So in order to break the chain and train yourself to do something, why not try it with the snare instead.  That's why in this lesson we call it the inverted 8th beat or the opposite of it. Instead of doing the kick first, you'll start with the snare.  Here's the video that will explain this further about the basics on drumming. Our first lesson after knowing the parts of the drums and how to read drum notes is to actually try and play a drum pattern.  Most of the drummers start from this drum beat which is called 8th beat.  This is the simplest, easiest and very common drum beat.  A very powerful drum pattern because you can use this to almost every song on a variety of tempos.  Just to name few of the bands that uses this drum pattern, Metallica, Collective Soul, U2, McFly, etc.... So if you are a beginner in drumming, this is the best way for your to start your lesson and progress after. As a reminder, always practise with a steady tempo and also always try to play this pattern in soft as well as loud accents and then slow to fast speed.  Be creative and you'll be surprise where this drum pattern will take you.

Here's a very simple illustration on reading drum notes and this was written on a paper towel during one of my boring day. I was sat in the room doing nothing and suddenly a lightbulb moment happened and took a piece of paper towel and started writing drum notes. There are three lines and it's labelled as H.H. for hi-hat then S.D. for snare drums and B.D. for bass drum.  If you look it as just lines. The top one would be hi-hat, middle would be snare and the bottom is bass drum. These are the three basic parts of drums which we will be using throughout the lesson. I know a lot of us already know about notes but just a refresher exercises using clapping. Whole note:  Let's count 1 through 4 and just clap on the 1.  Meaning 1 clap each time. Half note:  Count 1 through 4 again and clap on 1 and 3.  Meaning 2 claps each round. Quarter note: Count 1 through 4 and clap on 1, 2, 3, and 4. Meaning 4 claps at a time. Here are the basic parts of the drumkit that one should know in order to play and understand drums. There are three basic parts in order to play drums and then I would call the rest as accessories where you play it to add flavour and make drumming more interesting.  Here are the three basic parts:  1) The Hi-hat. 2) The Snare drums and 3) The Bass drum.  When you know these three unit, you can already play a rhythm and start a good accompaniment to a song or join a band for that matter. The Hi-hat is consist of a foot pedal to make it open and close hence some call hi-hat as clapper because it looks like it's clapping.  There are many ways to use it either by hitting it with a stick or use your foot to open and close it rhythmically. The Snare drums normally is in between your legs and it is a flat drums with springs underneath.  There are myriads of ways to play with it.  Like, hit it with a stick and there are variety of sticks, brush, etc. to use and some even uses hands/fi

I am not a drummer is inspired by people who loves to play drums but too shy to try.  I myself really love drums but it seems it's not for me. Well, as the saying goes "there's no harm in trying."  So here's the excerpts of how I play drums and in this blog, I'll be posting and updating you with some basic lessons on drums as well as parts of drum kit. I think, there's always a drummer in us because as I can see on children they always love to tap and hit something and create a rhythm out of it.  Even, when we grow old we still got that rhythm and it might not be as fast or active as it was but still we tend to stomp our feet to the tune or tap our hands when we listen to our favourite songs.  Enjoy and subscribe if you like.  I'll be keeping you posted.
